Solidarity at Heart!

Teamsters Canada and its affiliates unite around a common goal: supporting communities.
In 2019, under the leadership of François Laporte, President of Teamsters Canada, the Teamsters Canada Foundation was established to better structure the union’s charitable efforts. This initiative provides a new platform to raise funds and support social and community causes across the country.

Since 1989, Teamsters members in Ontario have raised nearly $2 million for Variety Village, a charitable organization that supports children with disabilities and their families in the Greater Toronto Area and various locations across Ontario.

Meanwhile, since 1982, Teamsters Québec has also raised close to $2 million for Camp Papillon, another charitable organization dedicated to helping children with disabilities. The camp not only offers a safe and enriching environment for the children, but also gives their parents a well-deserved break from their busy lives.

For decades, local unions, joint councils, conferences, and Teamsters Canada have been actively engaged in fundraising for meaningful causes.
The creation of the Teamsters Canada Foundation strengthens this well-established tradition by providing an official structure to support charitable and community initiatives nationwide.

Some of Our Successes That Led to the Creation of the Teamsters Canada Foundation

Over the years, Teamsters members have demonstrated remarkable solidarity with communities in need. Through local and national fundraising campaigns, we have supported a wide range of causes—from helping children with disabilities to responding to natural disasters. These achievements, driven by the commitment of our local unions, joint councils, and conferences, paved the way for the creation of the Teamsters Canada Foundation—a dedicated structure designed to amplify our social impact and preserve our proud tradition of generosity.

In 2016, we raised nearly $150,000 for the Canadian Red Cross to support relief efforts during the Fort McMurray wildfires.

An additional $110,700 was donated to help the community rebuild after the disaster. This second contribution was used, among other things, to purchase an all-terrain vehicle for the local fire department, enhancing their emergency response capabilities.

In 2017, Canadian local unions and joint councils, in collaboration with Teamsters Canada, raised over $100,000 for the Teamsters Disaster Relief Fund.

This donation followed three consecutive hurricanes that struck the United States within a single month, causing major damage and requiring urgent assistance for the affected communities.

Each year, Teamsters local unions and conferences raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities across the country.

In 2017, this commitment resulted in a remarkable donation of $1 million to United Way, reflecting the generosity and solidarity of our members toward communities in need.
